canadian rockies

we a couple from india wish to travel thru canadian rockies with a visit to banff, lake lousie, ice explorer and around this area. wish to stay in banff also for few days. Rocky mountaineer train is very expensive, so can anybody suggest that we can do a group tour by road to these areas and will it be all that worth while. or is it wise to spend money in R M train and enjoy. pl also tell us what are the most beautiful natural scenery places not to be missed. pl understand that we are coming all the way from india to see this and on a budget tour. shall be extremely obliged. thanx kiran

The train only crosses the Rockies, it doesn't travel along them, so I don't think this is any way to see the Rockies. Its a luxurious train trip, and that's what people like about it, but it doesn't provide you the best way to see the mountains.

Most people drive themselves, and this is often the most cost effective way to travel when there is 3 or 4 of you.

How much time do you have?

G'day Kiran,

I can help more with the Alaska cruise, for which questions should be directed to the Alaska forum, than I can for the Rockies. There is a Top Question on the Alaska forum providing a LOT of information about cruises, and the link is here:

Rather than the very expensive Rocky Mountaineer you could look at Brewster who provide both coach trips from Vancouver as well as some linking with ViaRail to Jasper. ViaRail is the regular passenger service and not a rip-off tourist service like RM. Explore the Brewster website where you should fund lots of trip variations.

To get around to the various locations around Banff/Lake Louise I would look into Explore Rockies (Brewster) or Discover Banff Tours. These companies offer a variety of trips including the Columbia Icefields, Lakes and Waterfall tours, Wildlife tours and more. Without renting a car, they are the easiest way to get around the Park.

why not look at Caravan tours for the Cdn Rockies and Glacier trip. Its quite reasonable and easy to do. Then either fly to Vanc or take via rail from jasper. Once in Vancouver booking a trip to Victoria with

vancouvertours.com

is really nice. Key West travel and tours does economical trips from Vanc however you will spend a lot of time driving and very little sightseeing once in the Rockies.
