A good beachside hotel close to restaurants & bars

What would be a good beachside hotel within walking distance to restaurants and bars? Preferably on Ft. Myers Beach or Sanibel Island.

The Best Western FMB close to Time Sq. It is on gulf, if you consider a condo there are so many to choose from.

Just thought I would mention that you might want to identify which of the two (Sanibel / Ft. Myers Beach) is most likely to provide the setting and amenities you want. They are two very different places. Only a few of the Sanibel resorts / condo complexes have restaurants on site or very nearby. You could get a taxi or ride a bicycle to a variety of restaurants as many people do during daylight hours. Bicycling is not recommended at night, however, as there are some restrictions on lighting on the island related to environmental considerations and the pathways can be pretty dark.

Again, just an FYI in case you were not aware of these characteristics of Sanibel (a wonderful place to visit, but I would personally want a vehicle to get around after dark)!

Thanks for the info contrasting FMB and Sanibel. The latter may be a little too quiet for us. I like a few touristy establishments and bright lights.

Having read your post on another thread, wanted to share this information about Captiva Island...connected to Sanibel and immediately North. Definitely "laid back", but might be a good fit as you would be able to walk to restaurants from SOME of the accommodations. And...when so inclined, just a short drive over to Sanibel for additional restaurants / shops / activities.

"The village on Captiva has everything you'll need.

And you can walk to it all.

•Bask on the white sand beach, or frolic in the warm Gulf waters.

•Eat in cafes and restaurants you'll talk about until your next visit. The famous "Mucky Duck Restaurant," a first-rate beach-side vantage for spectacular sunsets.

•Take in some tennis, golf, or chill out by a pool.

•Browse for gifts, clothes and supplies in the shops.

•Relax under a cabana and watch the antics of the porpoise and sea birds.

•Hunt for rare and beautiful shells all along the famous shelling beach.

•Let the serenity of Captiva unwind you -- like a great vacation should"!
