If you are interested in seeing nice houses, barns, natural beauty - and not that interested in seeing the various town centers, this circular route provides a nice drive. Route 23 on that section is a beautiful curvy road past old homes. Tyringham is a beautiful Berkshires town (a residential one - there's a church and post office and little else) lost back in time (if you are interested I could suggest a spot in Tyringham for a great hike), and route 102 will take you into Stockbridge. From there you can take route 7 south back to GB. Without stops this drive takes a little under an hour.

Instead of immediately taking the left on 102, you could follow the signs and check out historic downtown Lee. A nice little town. You can then turn around and head back to 102.

Go east on rte 23 to Monterey, visit the general store, then return on 23 towards gr. barrington and take a right on Blue Hill Rd. follow to monument mountain rd. take a right and follow to route 7. Take 7 south (left) for a short distance and then a right on rte. 183 north. Stop at Taft Farms for a doughnut or snack and take a left on Division St directly at Taft's. Follow Division throught the light and take a right at Alford rd. go through Alford and West Center to rte 102. Take a right on 102. Will take you to the highway or the Village of West Stockbridge. If you go to WS stop into Chas. Baldwin Extracts. Neat old place with an old style cash register etc.

Here's another suggestion heading north for a longer, very scenic ride. This takes you to one of the nicest drives in the Berkshires, up Mount Greylock, the tallest mountain in MA. It's a bit longer, but you have the whole day and it's well worth the time if you are into a beautiful drive. It gives a good overview of the entire area. If time is short you can always pick up Rt 7 and head north along your route, but this is much more scenic.

Here is the link: http://goo.gl/maps/Uy64

The Stockbridge stop is optional. (Point B) Great small town. If you don't want to stop just continue on Rt 183. Watch for the signs to Kripalu (Point C). It is a Yoga mecca for many, but why you want to go is the incredible view from the front of their main building. Just head in the lot and keep heading up and bearing left until you get in front of the building. The view to your left is just spectacular, overlooking the hills and lakes. The grounds here are also nice, so if you want to stop for a walk it's a good place.

The ride up Greylock (Point D) is beautiful curvy fun. You can stop at the visitor's center if you like before you begin. There are great overlooks along the way, the best being the last before the summit on your right. At the summit you can walk around for some great views and climb to the top of the monument for even more expansive views. You can head down the back side of the mountain, but I suggest heading back the same way you came up. It is much nicer, and the views are completely different in the reverse direction. Pay particular attention as you're about to leave after you pass the visitor's center on the way out. The view to in front and to your left is amazing.

Another very beautiful view is Point E just as you crest the hill on Rt. 7 after you cross Rt 43. It feels like the entire Berkshires rolls out in front of you with rolling hills and farms.

A great ride isn't complete without a great snack, so stop at the A Frame Bakery listed as "US-7 N/Cold Spring Rd" on the directions (Point F) . The owner is as nice as can be and her baked goods are outstanding. It is right on the right hand side of the road with big purple rocks out front. What it lacks in visual taste it makes up for in actual taste.

Just to have a destination I ended my ride in Williamstown which is a great town to visit. Excellent college town, good walking, and good restaurants.
