Generally, Santorini IS regarded as more expensive than many of the other Greek islands, but to be honest it can be as expensive or as cheap as you want to make it.

If you're going to Kamari you shouldn't have much of a problem. The 2 main beach resorts, Kamari and Perissa are more geared to the British package holiday industry and are priced accordingly. As to individual prices in Kamari I can't really say as I've always atayed in Perissa. No doubt some of our Kamari-philes will chip in with their own thoughts.

If you want to go expensive, go up to Fira, the main town, or to Oia. Both of these 'resorts' are on the caldera side of the island and generally cater to the more up-market (ie non-package) travellers - mainly Americans, other Europeans, cruise ship travellers and honeymooners.

Prices here can be ridiculous (in my opinion) with some of the 'better' restaurants charging over 100 euros a head for dinner (you must get a cracking souvlaki and chips for that much).

It's worth going to these places because this is really what Santorini is all about - the views of the caldera and volcano - but be prepared to pay through the nose if you decide to eat or drink in one of the cliffside bars or restaurants.

Hello,

Kamari would be roughly the same as the other places you have been to in Greece. Slightly above the 'norm'(nearby Anafi or Ios). There are loads of restaurants and bars both along the seafront and in the back streets.

The rip-off prices are on the caldera side in Fira or Oia, easily avoided by going to places away from the cliff that don't have views.

Hi Sally & Darren

As Martin said it can be as expensive or as cheap as you want to make it.

With the exchange rate being what it is at the moment a meal in Kamari will cost you about the same as in England but there are lots of giros places around as an alternative to a full blown meal which are quite filling and cheap as chips (2-3 euro) or bagettes and club sandwiches, or a good, late breakfast will keep you going until your evening meal. Look out for the Liver Bird, a lovely bistro/bar just up from the main bus stop. They do full English with fried bread & toast and tea or coffee...nicer than in the beach tavernas and half the price (5 euro). We go there every day when in Kamari. If you go be sure to tell Wayne & Sheila that Phil & Liz send their regards and they will look after you.

You will love Santorini, Fira and Oia are amazing!

Have a great holiday and send a report when you get back.

Hi Sally&Darren

We were in Kamari in June and found the food and wine prices reasonable, we used to average 30 to 40 euros for starter, main and half a litre of wine.

Of course you could pay a lot more especially if you visit Fira or Oia but we found the food we had in Kamari was very good.

The restaurants we liked are Alexanders, Almiria, Seaside, Alexis and

the Balcony.

At the Love Boat Bar on the front 1/2 litre White or Red wine was 5 euros and very nice it was.

Have a great time.

... just to add that Rafaell's is good value for money, it's just inside the last street from the beach front (opposite end from the rock) but you need to go early as it gets full every evening.

We like the 'Hook Bar' on the front near the rock...extensive, inexpensive menu and the staff are all friendly females who don't try to pull people in. Steer clear of 'Eanos' (the one with fish tanks in front) and definately don't go in the 'No Name' up the last street at the rock end.

If you like Chinese can highly recommend the 'Kiwi', food is excellent, much nicer than the 'Great Wall' and less expensive. It's across from the Irish Bar up a street about half way up the front where the Candle place is sign posted. Indian food at the 'taj mahal' is pretty good but the wine is undrinkable and a rip-off price...just order water! Don't go to Fira without trying a giros at Lucky's Souvlaki...the best in Santorini! You will pass it as you head for the Caldera from the bus station, it's next door to the chemist

The 'Love Boat' on Kamari beach do great cocktails at a good price.

Again enjoy!

I second that, we really enjoyed Raffaellos & the Seaside restaurant. Raffaellos is located past Seaside just up the last road from the beach (look for the splash bar & its oposite that). Heleni, Dimitra & Miltos are great at Raffaellos as are the guys at Seaside.

Enjoy
