Walks, supermarket, restaurants, day trip

I just thought of another couple of questions...

1) We're staying in Cala Gogo campsite in Saint-Cyprien Plage. We hope to cook back at the campsite for most of the evenings. I know the shop on site will be expensive. Is there a Carrefour or equivalent supermarket nearby that is likely to be cheaper (we have a car)?

2) We want to go out for a meal on the last night (6 of us) and want to go somewhere for around 30€ each, somewhere nice that cooks French food. Is this feasible? any suggestions? I noted on another review that it's best to head out of Saint Cyprien Plage... what are your thoughts?

3) We also like the idea of going for a walk/bike ride (not hiking, just gentle!). Would you suggest the coastal paths?

4) We noted on one of the other posts about a possible day trip to Spain. The following was suggested:

Saint-Cyprien --> Coullioure --> Banyuls --> Cerbere -->Port-Bou --> Roses --> Figueras --> La Junquera --> Le Perthus

This seems like a long trip (we'll have all day and evening). Is it feasible? Anywhere we should definitely include/exclude?

Let me know if you have any ideas!

Thanks.

1. There is a Carrefour between Perpignan and Canet and one in Argelès.

In Saint Cyprien itself you'll find Lidl, SuperU, Spar and others.

2. You don't need to head out of the place to have a good meal. There are good restaurants near the harbor. "Le Phare" is not cheap but very nice.

L'Almandin is THE best restaurant in town. They have a lunch menu for less that €30 - probably more expensive in the evening.

3. There is a walking/biking path between Saint-Cyprien and Canet between the lagoon and the see. About half way you can visit fishermen's huts made of reed (they have been rehabilited and are not used any longer) and follow a bird-watching path along the lagoon.

It is very flat land and there are other paths for bikers/walkers.

4. It is possible but it will be a very long day. You don't say when you'll be in Saint-Cyprien. In June it is doable, in July and August it will be hectic along the coast. plus difficult to park your car.

You don't need to go through Rosas and Figueres.

Thank you for your quick reply!

Regarding the Spain day trip, we will be going during the 1st week of July so I think it's a good idea to shorten it (and also because we'll have more time to spend actually looking around rather than being in the car all day!). We will therefore miss out Roses and Figueres. Of the other places, which are more must-sees?

Stop in Port-Vendres, Collioure, drive along the coast to Banyuls and Cerbère.

If you are interested in art, you can visit Maillol's farm a few km from Banyuls. It houses a small museum. (The road to get there is narrow and winding).

If you leave early enough, you will have time to cross the border and head for Figueres making a detour on your way to visit the Benedictine Abbey of San Pere de Rodes. You don't need to drive through Rosas and Figueres (and I doubt you'll have the time especially if you stop for lunch somewhere) just take the highway back to France.

If time is short, save Figueres (Dali Museum) for another day going via Le Perthus and La Junquera (highway)

Elne, not far from Saint Cyprien, has a beautiful cloister. So has Saint-Génis des Fontaines.

Nice botanical garden in Saint-Cyprien itself.

Céret is not far either - Modern Art Museum, pretty town.

etc..........

Thanks for your suggestions

I think we can only do the trip during one of the days we are there unfortunately. We definitely want to visit Spain because one of us is Spanish. We're not particularly interested in art or museums on our visit... more the look of the place/buildings and soaking up the culture and atmosphere!

Still probably would like to miss another place out. Any more suggestions!?

Saint-Cyprien --> Coullioure --> Banyuls --> Cerbere -->Port-Bou --> La Junquera --> Le Perthus

thanks

1. Saint-Cyprien-Céret - Arles sur Tech - Col d'Ares - Camrodon in Spain.

2. Saint-Cyprien, Perpignan, Prades, Mont-Louis, Puigcerda (Spain)

Two other long days.
