The locals consider Mezcal moonshine - made from green agave. Tequila is made from the blue agave.

IMHO it's horrid stuff. And stick to 100% blue agave tequila unless you like wicked hangovers.

"Moonshine" is called racilla. It is absolutely disgusting! Mezcal is the alcohol with the worm in it...not quite as bad but still not good.

I asked a few genders on the beach but no luck. Did go to a great family run distillery El Barton del Ray which had amazing tequilla.

There is a mini super right across the street from the church in central Bucerias. They have it bottom shelf in a plastic bottle.
