Ephesus, Miletos, Didyma Tour

We just got back from taking a private tour of Epehsus that was the same price as the group tour offered on our cruise ship. We used EKOL Travel and the tour guide, Metin and his driver we waiting for us at the gate when we disembarked with a sign clearly posted.

Metin spoke English beautifully and his van was plush and the air conditioner great, which we appreciated as we're not used to the heat coming from the north.

He was knowledgable and courteous and gave a fabulous tour and did NOT take us to rug markets a gamit often done to touring groups.

We highly recommend Metin and EKOL Travel, they were prompt and very reliable. If we'd known travel could be made this easy and fun here we would have stayed a week!

Any questions give us a shout.

I like the fact that you were not taken to places you did not want to visit (such as the rug markets)and that your time was spent doing what you wanted to do which was to sightsee... May I ask what the charge was for the Ephesus tour? I'm still choosing which cruise to take. I'm a bit confused because some cruise lines list "Ephesus" as a port stop and some others list "Izmir". I am mainly interested in visiting the city of Ephesus. Are there tours to Ephesus if the ship docks in Izmir?

Thanks for whatever comment you may have.

It is true that some ships dock in Kusadasi which is only 25 minutes from Ephesus.Others dock in Izmir which is approx an hour away but you can still visit Ephesus easily from there too and all tour companies can arrange this for you with no problems.

We also went on a shore excursion tour out of Kusadasi. We used a different tour group called Celsus Travel. I checked out both Ekol and Celsus but Celsus was much less expensive. The also do tours from Izmir. The tour was incredible as was the tour guide. Both groups were recommended to me by an "expert" in Turkey. Either one will work and both groups tour out of both ports. Epehesus was impressive. I would pick whichever meets your needs.

www.ekoltravel.com

There has been a recent thread about the pro's and con's of a one day visit to Ephesus from Istanbul that may help you make a decision, you can view it on the Ephesus forum.

It's a long day and it isn't a cheap day but if you aren't likely to get back to Turkey in the near future(if at all)then it is worth serious consideration IMHO :)
