were to stay on Coromandel Peninsula

Have 3 days to spend of the peninsula and are thinking about

booking a place overlooking the harbour of the Coromandel township

do you think this is our best option, will have been travelling for 5 weeks and are looking to be able to chill in the evenings and be close to eateries etc don't want anything hectic will the township offer us this or will we have probs finding places to eat etc.

Many thanks

We spent a couple of nights in Coromandel town staying in a motel with outdoor pool.I seem to remember there being several options for eating out and some food stores.

We really liked the town especially the more historic buildings but if it's beach life you are after then stay on the other coast.

Do take a trip on the Driving Creek Railway for wonderful views.

I've answered your questions back to front. :) If I had 3 nights(make that 4 if you really want to chill) on the Coromandel I would spend them on the east coast of the peninsula- Hahei, Hot Water Beach, Matarangi. Opito Bay, there are others too, all beautiful beaches. Your problem is with "eateries". There are the odd ones at some beaches at others none at all, this is true Kiwi holiday territory, most stay at their baches or are camping, we leave the restaurants for when we are at home. To get a good variety of restaurants you would need to stay in Whitianga, a small township with a great beach(but not the best of the bunch) and a relaxed atmosphere but not so laid back as others I have mentioned.

Hahei would be my choice, 2-3 restaurant/cafe, good sightseeing activities & tours nearby and not too far by car and across the passenger ferry to Whitianga.

I'm assuming you were thinking of walking to Coromandel Township from Wyuna Bay for dinner(your other thread) that might be a bit of a problem- you'd just get home and it would be time to return for breakfast! :)

Hi

Thanks for such a quick reply, I think we've decided to book the kiwi beach

house on the beach at Wyuna bay as its looks so peaceful and as they've got a BBQ it'd be a good base to explore for the day and then just flop at night and chill with a good bottle of kiwi wine and flash up the BBQ instead of heading into the township, we'll have been on the road for 5 weeks so a think it might be a welcome break.

Sorry but another question, have you any idea were we should consider

staying at Bay of Islands.

Thanks again
