Jellyfish!

I've just returned from Playa Blanca and the beach was great - except the last day when there were signs up warning of jellyfish.

Now I know that they are just something you have to live with but can anybody tell me if this is something that occurs at a particular time of year in Lanzarote or is it just weather related?

Maybe they have always been there all the other previous times I have been to the island - they just didn't put signs up!

Hi

Had a few plagues of medusas (jellyfish) this year.....its due to the amount of available plankton in the water (on which they feed)......warmer the water...more plankton.....more medusas.........There was an (unsubstantiated) link to the warming of the water due to volcanic activity under the sea just off El Hierro, but scientists are divided as to whether this had caused an increase or not.
