Cycling in Playa Blanca

Hello, heading to stay at Sun Tropical next week. I am keen to do a bit of cycling, nothing serious but just as a way to see some of the island. Are there dedicated cycling routes or do you need to cycle on the road with traffic. Are there some nice cycle routes. Grateful for any advice.

Depending what sort of bike you get, there are loads and loads of off road dirt tracks etc, also plenty of quiet roads, every bend brings another great view of the island so enjoy

Thanks, was thinking more road biking, are there any signed routes or do you basically make it up as you go?

The tourist info office or bike hire place may have some guides, otherwise follow your nose. you cannot get lost and once off the main road there is not that much traffic. enjoy

We hired bikes from our hotel Rubicon Palace & cycled all the way to Papagayo Beach which was amazing & there is some great views on the way.

Hi Jamie, just saw your post. My better half and I will be staying in PB in June and are considering hiring a couple of bikes. You mentioned that you cycled to Papagayo beach. What was the journey like? Would a hybrid bike be ok as ive read that the track can get quite bobbly in places. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Hi

Depends what you want to do. If you want some serious road cycling there are always lots of cyclists out on the roads around the wineries around the LZ30 toward San Batolome .The roads are good , but Remember there is no shade and some stiff climbs. You can hire good quality road bikes in PB from places like this

electrobike-lanzarote.com/rentals_lanzarote.… But perhaps you will need to take your own kit, shoes etc.

Alternatively there is a paved prom which runs the whole length of the front which is easy to cycle, you can get a hybrid type mountain bike , most will deliver to your hotel and ride along the front and out further of you want. To get to Papagayo you can get off the prom by the Dream Gran Castillo and they follow the track. Have a look on google maps , you can zoom right in and see the area. If you look on here Delboy has some excellent photos which clearly show the prom area. Rember if you go out on a bike take plenty water it gets warm.

Have fun

There are some restrictions on cycling down the promenade. Just found this thread that confirms it is prohibited between the town centre and the Marina.

not sure that there are dedicaed cycling routes but there really isnt much traffic and the roads are just superb. Lanzarote holds an annual Ironman competition, so there are plenty of gruelling hills to challenge you - but the views will make the climbs worthwhile!
