Advice on area to stay

Have set our mind on Playa Blanca for August Holiday. Have scrolled through lots of Villa websites, owners direct, holiday lettings etc etc. I am more confused now with where to stay. A lot of villas say 15 minute walk to town. We don't mind a 15 minute walk, but are they a nice walk or along a main road type walk. What I am asking then is which area would be best to stay if we want to have a wander at night with the kids, go for a nice meal without hiring a car.

Thanks for any responses.

There is a promenade walk from one end to the other. Around the harbour area is central to the shops and the main group of restaurants. Also the Marina area at one end has built up a number of restaurants and shops. However the main Dorada beach sits between the two. There is another Flamingo Beach beyond the harbour in the direction of the Lighthouse which has a with a few restaurants.

So near the Dorada beach gives you the opportunity to be close to beach and 10/15 mins from the restaurants in the harbour or marina

HI Tracey,

Try playa flamingo just past the harbour 6 or 7 mts to town , or go towards the marina on east side of town 10 - 15 mts, both give you a nice walk in with the added bonus of a few bars etc along the way. If you go up out of town to say Parque del Rey, or El Palomar they are a good 15 mts walk with nothing much to look at on the way, also a steep climb on the way home. If you want a pool It's easier to get a villa the further out you go.

Have a look at Los Calamares. It is 5/7 mins walk to town for restaurants. About another 7/10 to the Dorada beach and then another 5/7 to the Marina. We stay on there every year.

(all times approx. depending on walking speed lol!)

Yes the Dorada beach is between both Marina and Harbour restaurants and I

meant 10 mins to either from the beach

I will put the cat among the pigeons now by suggesting Los Colarados, right at the Papagayo beach end of PB. A lovely 15 min walk/ stroll into the marina area along the coastal walkway and another 15 into PB centre itself , or catch the No 30 bus for about 1.30 euro.

Sorry if adds further confusion.

Thanks for all your repiles so far and keep them coming. I just wish on "Owners Direct" there was some sort of map to show where they are. That would be too easy though xxx

Have a look at www.lanzarotelates.com. They give good descriptions of the villas proximities to amenities.

Thanks for all your responses. Have had to look a little bit further out to get a nice size pool for the kids. Have seen a nice villa in Los Claveles. The villa says about 15 minute walk to town. Would you say that was accurate? and is it an ok walk?

We are also struggling a bit because we are only going for 9 days. Have had a few emails saying they are not willing to rent for 9 days in August so can't committ.

Wish me luck

Hi Tracey,

Have a look at Lanzarotelates.com , they have a decent map of the areas your thinking about. Los Claveles is about 15 mts at a good pace. We have stayed in Parque del Rey, El Palomar, and just across the road in Montana Roca over the last 3 yrs, all about 15 mts from the edge of town. We tend to walk in and taxi back, taxis are about 4 euros. We have had no problems with booking villas for 9 - 12 days in Sept - Nov. This year will be 9 days but we are going in two weeks time.

Good Luck.

We have got a nice villa booked now for our 9 days through Optima Villas in the Costa Papagayo area. Probably about 20 minute walk to town, but that's ok. We can always get a taxi.

One more question with regards to the bus service. Does the bus go by the Costa papagayo villas and how long does it take to get to town or would we be cheaper just jumping in a taxi )2 adults and 2 children).

Thanks for all your help
