Where on the Costa de Luz?

Hi,

Can someone advise me what towns are good to stay in on the Costa de luz. We are a family of four and are looking for a two or three week holiday in August. (Would that be too long for this area?) We would like to stay close to a nice beach. We don't want somewhere too wild but we would like some nice restaurants. There seem to be a lot of nice towns but it would be great to get some local knowledge.

You could try the western end of Costa De La Luz. The beaches are very good and the village on Rompido on the coast has many very good restaurants. Like anywhere it will be very busy in August with mainly Spanish holiday makers. There are a couple hotels in Rompido of good quality. I would advise you tom hire a car for the beaches.

YoU have posted in the Conil forum but of course as you probably know the Costa de la Luz stretches from the Portuguese border to Tarifa - so a long way indeed and plenty of variety of resorts and beaches. Of course August is when the entire world decends on these beaches mainly because it does get very hot in the interior of Andalucia. Cooling off is obligatory and you will find families staying the entire day on the beach complete with all the necessary paraphenalia. So as you imagine the beach restaurants and bars will be busy and the 'chiringuitos' or beach bars popular.

The beach at Conil town is very nice and wide and the town itself has plenty to offer. Staying in Conil could be quite relaxing depending on your available accomodation and maybe you would hire a car for some local sightseeing ? Maybe go to Vejer - a nice hill top town or even as far as Cadiz.

Looking at other options you could perhaps think of El Puerto de Santa Maria except the town is not directly on nice beaches but is near transport links for example using the ferry over to Cadiz is nice. Or you can take buses or trains elsewhere. There are plenty of places to eat in El Puerto during the busy holiday season as many people may come down from Madrid using the train for the summer holidays. Or for that matter Seville and Jerez.

I don't know the Portuguese end of the Costa so look at purpose built resorts like Isla Canela and Isla Crisitina and further along that coast there is a Spanish resort called Punta Umbria near Huelva that is very nice.
