You should be aware that the main holiday season is over. Marina di Ostuni will be quiet but this means you may also find some places closed. Some Hotels stay open well into early October so should still be some life around

Martina Franca - does your 10min drive mean 10mins from Martina Franca. If so may be peaceful but no access to local restaurants unless you drive.

Had a similar problem when looking in the Martina Franca area. I wanted to be within walking distance of the town but many properties listed as "Martina Franca" were in the surrounding countryside - as you said "10mins drive" - 10 mins can easily be 6miles or more.

Don't know where you've been looking but I always use www.holiday-rentals.co.uk for my rentals

Martina Franca ( martinafrancatour.it/inglese/introduzione.asp ) will be quiet by day- especially over the lunch period- but lively from 6pm and into the evening, especially at weekends, as families walk up and down the narrow alleys of the centro storico...

where there are several restaurants- some on Piazza Plebescito right in the centre, others tucked away in tiny alleys (Sagittario is worthwhile seeking out as local families eat there en-masse usually after 9pm; big portions - order dishes to share).

But if you're set on a country place with pool, and especially if you're north or east of Martina Franca (towards Locorotondo, Cisternino or Ceglie), you'll find it an easy short drive of 20-30 minutes to the sea, where there are also lots of good restaurants along the rocky coves of the coast in and between Torre Canne and Savelettri
