Travel to Salo and Como

We are flying to Verona and then going to Salo, Lake Garda, staying there for a week and then going to Como, Lake Como for a few days and flying home from Milan. We are considering either private transfer or hiring a car as prices are similar. Does anyone know if parking is readily available in Salo and Como? We are renting an apartment near the duomo in Salo.

You need a car for this trip unless you want the expense of the ferry every day. The ferry will be at least $15.00 -20.00 each.----- There is too much to see not to drive. Salo has the entrance to the hightway nearby.---Parking will be difficult in both places but you will find spots. Look for places without fees. Try to rent a place that includes parking---most places provide parking. Driving around both lakes and stopping in the towns lining the Lakes is the best part Italian Lakes.

We saw more with a car but we had much less stress without. A week in Salo is just right to try the best restaurants, a couple of days of doing almost nothing, local walks and a couple of boat trips. Sr. Tiziano is very good for transfers. There are buses around as well.

The same should apply in Como, here you can get plane trips and trains as well.

BG you will like Salo a lot but getting there from Verona airport is tricky by public transport. Also once there the car is more of a worry than an advantage. I don't remember seeing any public parking in the town at all. I would go for the private transfer, even bargain with a taxi man at the airport.

The lake is served very well by buses and used in cojunction with the boats need not be too expensive at all. Only if you opt for the hydrofoils will you feel the pinch ! Maybe once in the week.

Getting to Como is fairly straightforward, a bus to Brescia, train to Milan then the Como commuter line straight to the harbour.

Thanks for the replies to this post. We have decided to get a taxi transfer from Verona and use public transport while in the Lakes as this seems to be less stressful.
