Next June, we land at 9am at Dublin, pick up the rental car and head to Trim - that will be Day 1.
Day 2: we have a full-day private tour (Hill of Tara + other Boyne Valley sights), arranged with a guide/driver. Day 3: we will be visiting Brú na Bóinne (Knowth & Newgrange), as well as Mellifont Abbey and Monasterboice.
When we arrive in Trim on Day 1, we will not want to drive more than 10 minutes to get anywhere else (and only if absolutely worthwhile!) The combo of a long day before + an overnight flight, means that our brains will just not be functioning 100 percent. We will, however, need to move about and absorb daylight - maybe even some sunshine, if we're lucky!
Trim sounds like a lovely, easy, first day in Ireland. We were thinking of just visiting the Castle, walk around Trim and along the Boyne, have an early dinner and an early night.
Can you please suggest interesting tidbits (ruins, etc.) to seek out & see in Trim and the immediate vicinity? As well as suggestions for where to have dinner nearby, as we will be there for 3 nights...
Again, your input is very much appreciated.Edited: 4:39 pm, November 18, 2012
