Mozzies

In Kefalonia last summer the mozzies were out in force - they said it was one of the worst years ever. Has anyone that has been to Samos recently experienced any particular problems? My partner had an allergic reaction to them last year - although this yr we are going well stocked with 50% deet.

thanks very much

Got back on Thursday, didn't see any but we both managed to get a bite each in the 2 weeks we were there. We both used Odomos & Autan liberally

Never found mozzies to be a problem in Samos, though we always use Deet sprays/wipes & plug ins for the rooms. This year I am going to experiment with Avon's "Skin so soft" dry oil spray, apparently it is supposed to be really effective against the mozzies and the Highland midge - loads of good reviews if you google it. Smells nice too so worth a try :-)

I have no tips on the insect challenge --- just a bemused observation that occurs to me so often on these forums. You know how Churchill said "US & Britain are 2 nations divided by a common language"? He might also have said divided by 2 different informal versions of so many common words ... examples:

Television: UK = telly USA = TV

"Icicle" lollipop: UK = ice lolly USA = popsicle

mosquito: UK = mozzie USA = "skeeter"

Use all of the things recommended by others , we've tried and tested most and Jungle Formula wins!! plus buy Citronella night lights or candles either here or when in Samos and burn them when sitting on the balcony or terrace at night..

Hi

We have just got back from Kambos and never got bitten at all. We used the Jungle Formula spray and a plug in device in the apartment - never saw any round lights etc in the evening - but then again it was quite windy so that also keeps them away

Hope this helps

Samos Town is right at the edge of the sea so not so bad but you do get the odd mozzie lurking near bushes and plants. We use the milder Autan spray around ankles and knees which does the trick!
