Ahangama - Hundungoda Tea Plantation

Hi

Will be staying in Unawatuna and just wondering if the Hundungoda Tea Plantation would be the nearest one for us to visit - or can anyone please recommend an alternative.

It looks like we can get the local train from Unawatuna to Ahangama, just wondering whereabouts the train station is in Una and also how far is Hundungoda Tea Plantation from the station in Ahangama - probably plenty of tuk tuks around anyway!

Many thanks

Hi there,

Yes amongst the closest. They state between Koggala and Ahangama on their site. U'tuna station is far from the beaches and there are not many local trains attending to it, hence buses are much better. Check with your U'tuna acco where the best place is to get off and there take tuktuk or another bus.

All the best,

<Erik> & [Sandya]

PS Nice for seeing the process and tasting a cuppa, probably not good for buying and bringing home; lowcountry teas generally are inferior taste and only used for e.g. making fruit tea mixes...

Thanks Erik, not too bothered about the actual quality of the tea, don't have the time to go all the way up-country but would like the experience of visiting a tea plantation...

Hear what you are saying about the Una bus versus train but again we just like the idea of using the local train.

Very many thanks
