From same area (Colombo Fort): 3 - 3.5 hours, depending on the time of the day (rush hour or not). Sorry for Treshi, but scheduled train times also are never below 3 hours...

All the best,

"scheduled train times also are never below 3 hours..."

Scheduled train times are almost always under 3 hours except for 1 or 2 slow trains.

The train starting at 3.50 p.m from Colombo fort goes to galle in under 2 hours normally. I have gone on it a few times and checke the time. The best time was 1 hour 55 minutes from start to finish.

Also most of the other trains take around 2.5 hrs. (scheduled and actual times)

Well, it varies...

Yes technically they can go faster but as you know south of Aluthgama it's all 1-track which means quite some scheduled waits.

A few examples of the scheduled times according to railway.gov.lk, for tomorrow:

Dep 10:30 Arr 13:02 (yes, 2.5 hours)

Dep 14:05 Arr 16:45 (that's 2.75 hours)

Dep 15:50 Arr 17:47 (the train you mention, quickest of all, probably no oncoming trains)

Dep 17:25 Arr 19:48 (about 2.5 again)

So okay, according to schedule all below 3 hours, but reality :-(

Tnx,

The single track line is starting from Kalutara South, not Aluthgama.
