Early Arrival in Santiago

I am on my way to Puerto Plata and found a real cheap flight to Santiago--only problem is that is arrives at 3:00 am. It seems that the first bus out of Santiago to Puerto Plata is 6:30 or so--so my question is what to do till then, any advice? I really do not want to spend a lot of money for a hotel room. (A cheap one would be feasible)

Before you book the flight think about if you are really saving much money

You have to pay cab fare from the airport to the bus ($30-50) then spend 2 hours on the bus ($7per person). When you get to Puerto Plata you will need another cab to the hotel ($25-40). Then you need to do the reverse for your flight home.

Alternativly you can get a cab or arrange for a pick up at the airport ($90-110 +tip) each way and again when you leave.

not being critical of reidie or their decision because i have done so before and speak from experience. it is almost always better in the DR to fly directly to your destination. even if you save $200 both ways on airfare you will end up paying nearly as much or perhaps more and is not worth the hassle. just my 2cents worth. i know a former cab driver from santiago(lives in the states presently) who has contacts if you want a private transfer pm me. happy travels, ben

I have the same question. Flight already booked so flying into Santiago vs. puerto plata is moot.

Thank you
