Hi Herbie,

Maybe you could be a bit more specific to help us to help you better ;)

How long do you have?

What are your interests?

Are you attending the Fleadh in Derry?

Will you have your own transport?

Do you have accom. sorted in Derry - where are you looking for us to provide hotel recommendations for?

As shell has said, it would be better if we knew your accommodation plans. It's possible to base yourself in Derry and still explore the North coast by train (for example). Stopping at Castlerock for Benone strand and Musenden temple, into Coleraine for a bit of shopping, then onto Portrush which (as you say) is very nice with two great beaches (one with huge sand dunes and a great walk out to the White Rocks) and a few good restaurants and lots of amusement arcades and rides for kids (if you have kids). Portstewart is just up the road a few miles too which is another seaside resort and it's acessible by bus from Portrush along with the Giants Causeway and Bushmills. You can also get dropped off for Dunluce castle via the bus too.

Of course if you're doing it all by car and want to travel around staying in (say) Portrush then I can recommend either the Ramada there: http://www.ramadaportrush.com (which does a great buffet breakfast in the morning) or the Adelphi a few doors down from it. You can also get good info on the area here: www.northcoastni.com

Lots to see/do in this area - great beaches, great ice-cream in Portstewart (check out some of the great flavours in Roughan's or go for the perennial favourite Mauds poor bear or an eat-in sundae at Morelli's), Dunluce castle (great views and history and worth more than the photo-stop outside) at Portrush, Bushmills Distillery tour, Carrick-a-rede rope bridge plus loads of nice photo stops - Mussenden temple/Downhill demesne; tiny Portbradden; Dark Hedges; Ballintoy harbour; Kinbane castle (unfortunately path is currenlty blocked), Whitepark bay..

Don't miss the Glens of Antrim area either - Tor Head scenic route is fantastic in good weather.
