Although it is central to Co Antrim, Ballymena is not generally regarded as the hub of the universe, except by those who hail from the town.

Stay in Belfast. Ballymena is about 30 minutes by car on the M2/A26.

Just make sure your self-catering has good heating if you are going in February with a toddler in case we have another cold winter.

Have a look at the Malone Lodge Hotel - according to their website they have some self-catering apartments. It gets very good reviews.

Their all right. Stay in Belfast. A good place to stay self-catering in the city is the apartments in Wellwood st, The only city center apartments. www.corporate-apartments.co.uk/location.

You're recommending someone stay in the heart of Sandy Row??? You wouldn't happen to have some kind of deal with them would you? ;-)

The apartments are located between Sandy row and Great Victoria street, the closest to the city, in a Very Quit location , I have no link with the apartments, other than to have had a few happy passangers with toddlers stay at this location and tell me their great.

This is further away from Sandy Row than Days Inn and the Youth Hostel. I don't see what the problem is.
