Montalcino - Getting there

Is it possible to get to Montalcino without a car? We would like to go to Montalcino for a day/night from Rome, but do not want to rent a car.

You can take the bus. Don't take the train as the station is 10 km outside of the town, if I remember correctly. www.sita-on-line.it but the website is really awful. I'll check and see if I can find a better link....

It is a wonderful town but it is a bit of a hike by bus for just a day trip. Orivieto comes to mind for a quick trip from Rome. Or maybe you can try the early moring eurostar train ( its only a 1.5 hour trip ) to Florence and then take a bus to San Gimignano. which takes about another hour.
