Train Nice to Breil

We are looking for a village/town on the line between Nice and Breil to get off and stroll around and have a drink and or lunch. Without me looking at each village on Google maps can anyone recommend anywhere to get off that is pretty and has a choice (all be it small) of bars. We are looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of the coast for a few hours.

Thank you.

when?

what do you mean by ''bars''?

why only as far as Breil?

Bar/cafe, anywhere to get a drink, or small lunch really.

And we will be heading down to Ventimiglia in the late afternoon or evening.

If there is nowhere worth while, then fair enough, we won't bother.

Thank you.

Sospel is very pleasant, and the only place before Breil where the village is within easy strolling distance of the station.

If going further than Breil, and maybe you should, Saorge is spectacular, but an uphill walk from Fontan Saorge station. La Brigue is beautiful, and Tende is impressive and has the Musee des Merveilles if you're interested in prehistory.

Sospel and Tende have the most choice of bars and restaurants.

There are now only two trains a day from the Roya Valley to Ventimiglia, and the 16.07 from Breil is the last one.

I love the Roya Valley and I am with perlizia.

While I think that Saorge is stunningly beautiful....it's a hassle from the train and there are VERY few bars / restaurants there.

Sospel is flat and is very user friendly.

Enjoy....

You should be aware that the line between Sospel and Breil seems to be closed currently following a major landslide. I have found it difficult to get definitive information but it seems possible that the line may be closed for sometime as a number of houses have been affected by the landslide as well as the railway.

The landslip affecting the train line to Tende [train des merveilles route] is in Nice ,behind 218 route de turin.

The line is open from Drap station and Tende

The bus substitutions and connections on the route as follows - this is current timetable but will change once the cliff has been blasted.

Again very useful.

This could explain while a couple of online railway timetables are suggesting replacement buses.

Thank you all.
