Valence-sur-Baïse

We need to travel from Paris to Valence-sur-Baïse in July. What is the easiest way to get there in one day?

Are we talking of the Valence-sur-Baïse a few km to the south of Condom?

If you are, hire a car! or at least fly or take a train to some nearby larger city and hire a car there.

The nearest large railway station/town is at Agen, some 50km distant. TGV trains from Paris Montparnasse get there in about 4hrs 20 minutes. Go to www.voyages-sncf for detailed times and fares. You must reserve seats and if you reserve well in advance you can get some really good deals.

As far as I know, Condom has only three buses a day from Agen and Valence-sur-Baïse only school buses, so a car is virtually a necessity.

I cannot help with car hire in Agen (I don't drive) but if you hired one in Paris it's about 750km, basically an all-day drive.

Airports at Pau and Toulouse are around 110km away and have regular flights from Paris - and car hire of course.

Best of luck.

Thank you. From your comment - is it cheaper (out of country before we get to France) to purchase train tickets or car rentals? Example - train from Paris to Agen for 3 of us is 254 euros.(on line reservation)

We live in Canada, our thought was to book our train tickets from Paris to Agen, when we arrive in Paris. We are in Paris 6 days before we need to take the train to Agen. We are hiring a canal boat out of Valence-sur-Baïse and will need to rent a car at Agen after we are done 1 week of boating.

As you are travelling in July, the cheap advance fares will probably have already have gone, especially at weekend. In general, tickets for long distance trains in France work like airlines. The longer you can book in advance, the cheaper the ticket. I would certainly not wait until you get to France. TGV trains are 'all reserved' and can be completely sold out days, if not weeks, ahead.

84 Euros each for a peaceful 4hr, 30 minutes and 750km journey isn't too bad a fare anyway!

But you still have the issue of getting from Agen to Valence-sur-Baise which may sway the decision towards hiring a car in Paris despite that 8 hour drive.
