St Florent and Ile Rousse

I will have 5-6 days in Corsica in May and was thinking of splitting the time between St Florent and Ile Rousse. Are the 2 towns very much alike? Is there public transportation between them? Does anyone have any suggestions for other places in the same area that might be a better mix? I'd rather not rent a car but am open to it if necessary.

Not a bad idea at all, but there doesn't seem to be any public transport between the two places in May except the long way round via Bastia. Check out public transport on www.corsicabus.org

although it seems a little out of date in places.

The big advantage of L'ile Rousse is the tramway between there and Calvi, good fun in itself, but also a link to the beaches between the two towns and the little town of Algajola, and it should be possible to organise trips to the hinterland. So you could spend the whole time in L'ile Rousse.

From where will you be arriving (Bastia, Ajaccio, Figari?) - this sounds to me like a good mix - my recomendation however would be to consider renting a scooter (which can be done without a licence) as public transport is quite poor on the island (which is why we like it so much).

Enjoy your Corsican holidays!

I'll be coming from Italy, so Bastia I think is the only entry point. So I was thinking of taking a bus from Bastia to either St Florent or Ile Rousse and then going from there. A scooter is an interesting idea...
