What kind of marine life can I expect to see in August in the Gulf of Papagayo? What is the best tour to see wildlife on land?

A good time to go up north to the Islas Murcielagos (Bat Islands). Look for Bull Sharks and Manta rays.

The dive shop that I recommend richcoastdiving.com/Rich_Coast_Diving/Welcom… ask for Brenda or Martin.

August is a good time for Bull sharks. One thing you need to know is that they need 4 people to go up there.

Enjoy Costa Rica

We take above water and under water photos on our tours and have been uploading them to this public album since 2009. Take a look to see what you will see from month to month.

August is a great time to go diving!

The other dude mentioned Bull Sharks and to dive for those they go to Bat Islands, which is about the half way point between Coco the Gulf of Papagayo and San Juan Del Sur, Nicaragua. If you can get on a dive boat out there, do it. It is so beautiful.

There is Rich Coast Diving, like he mentioned, and Summer Salt Dive Shop and Diving Safaris, Rocket Frog Divers; rocketfrogdivers@gmail.com, Ocotal Dive Resort and several others. Since there usually is a boat minimum to go dive Bats, I'd suggest contacting all of them for your best chances of getting a tour out there.

If not bull sharks, there are all kinds of rays (spotted eagle, devil,) all different kinds of puffer fish, king angle fish, sea turtles, dolphins, frog fish, sea horses, eels, morays, jacks, spade fish, white tipped reef sharks, nurse sharks, sea stars......

enjoy!!

You can also dive by Bajo de los Tiburones close to Manzanillo beach...not far from Matapalo beach where the infamous RIU is located!

I see people recommmend Bat islands, which is a great dive spot, but you have to remmember it is a deep dive and you need to have the advanced certification.

If not, local dives are great as well, there are loads of white tip reef sharks around, the other day we have false killer whales, turtles, rays adn lots of big schools of fish and little nudi branchs.

This area is really worthwile to go diving.
