Papagayo nightlife

Wondered if anyone can help. I'm looking to go to Costa Rica later this year and stay in the Papagayo area. I was wondering if there are any bars or restaurants outside of the hotels. Not looking for anything major just chillded out places.

I was wondering if there was maybe a town/village in the area that you can go for a walk around.

Also which hotels are near the best beaches or near any nightlife.

Would really appreciate anu suggestions, thanks

The closest village to Liberia airport is Playas del Coco. In Coco you have a lot of restaurants and several bars, however there are only 2 night clubs. It is a nice village, where you can walk everywhere and it is very safe. The beach itself is not the best one in Costa Rica, it is a black (volcanic) sand beach but the water is very clean. Just around the corner, you have a white sand beach that you can reach by kayak or by car - it is called La Penca.

Then you also have Tamarindo, which is a surfing village with a very nice beach. Tamarindo is located at about 1h drive from Liberia airport. It has a lot of restaurants and bars, however it is not as safe a Playas del Coco.

I hope it helps!
