Tailoring in penang

I would like to give top marks to "Sparks Tailor's" in Batu feringhi. I had to get a suit made in a very short time and they were very good and very inexpensive Mike James Perth W.A.

WARNING. If you are thinking of having a suit or anything made by Ron of Sparks in Penang be careful. He made some good shirts for me and a good jacket and suit. However he then said he would make me another suit at the great price of 350 MR. I chose the material and two days before I left he produced the suit. Cheap, nasty material and completely different from what I had chosen. So Ron said no problem, come in 48 hours' time and I will give you the suit with the right material. Of course I arrived at his shop and it wasn't there. So Ron said, give me your address in the UK and I will send it to you. This time I met not such a friendly Ron. I was suspicious and asked Mr. Kenny Lee a Duty Manager of the Golden Sands to follow up. 6 weeks later and in spite of endless calls from Mr. Lee and visits to Ron's shop still no suit. On principle I will contact a solicitor and the Tourist Police in Penang if Ron does not give the suit to Mr. Lee today. By the way he gave me his email address. Surprise surprise it doesn't accept my emails. He has chosen the wrong man this time. 350 MR isn't big bucks but he will not be able to do this to any other holiday maker. Leaves a bad taste. I am pretty annoyed with him

I assure you. Colin

There are very mixed reviews about sparks tailors...in fact there are so many vs other reviews its a bit hard to know if they are all legit. I'm after a business suit with good quality tailoring. Any other recommendations in BF. I'm at the hard rock hotel.

I had a suit and three pairs of trousers made at Deepee this week. I visited for measurement on Saturday morning, suit and pants fitted on Sunday evening and I picked up the clothes on Monday night. The service was very efficient and friendly and the quality of the workmanship was excellent. Mr Deepak took great care in ensuring that the style, quality of fabric and fit met my requirements. I will certainly be returning on my next visit to Penang.

Do they do alterations for clothes in general or do they only specialise in tailoring new garments ?

I am looking for a place for alterations for some dresses and unlined soft jackets

Gaja, you mentioned that DeePee tailors was relocating to Straits Quay. Is that Straits Quay Mall, which on my map looks to be about halfway between Batu Ferringhi and Georgetown? And do you have a more specific address so that I could find Mr Deepee? We will be i Penang in April so there's no immediate rush.

DeePee are on the ground floor at Straits Quay in the outside bit between the carpark and the main area. If you're walking down from the main drop off point turn left before you get to Royal Selangor and the main entrance, and the shop is down on the left just past the glass and soap shop.
