How is Holbox shaping up since the Red Tide showed up?

Is the Red Tide gone? How is the seaweed and mosquito situation now ? We will be there Tuesday and are hoping everything is back to normal. Milikis, I think you said the restaurants were opening back up for the season too? Thanks in advance

Latest news please ref the clean up campaign. I am free to volunteer my services, whatever is needed. I will pay flights, transfers and ferries, food and drink. Just want free bed, shower and use of kitchen. Nothing fancy.

I fell in love with Holbox and the people I met when I visited twice in October for a detox. I was devastated by the damage to sea life and environment,

So, in return I am happy to help detox the island! Use me as needed, free. Available January for maybe 3 months. All projects welcomed, community, civil or private enterprise.

Write me with any proposal.

I keep meaning to take a picture of the beach. Maybe manana.

I have not seen anything dead on the beach in a few weeks. The red tide was dealt with pretty quick and then we got seaweed from the nortes. The shoreline was completely clear this morning, I would say a line of seaweed down the beach about 2 meters wide but really set back now. I guess I see these changes all as really really normal and natural. As for cigars Texas Rob- check in the minisupers and Art stores- not sure if they are authentic though.

Wow. From what I now read it's gone as quick as it arrived!

There must surely be some work to be done, I can't imagine the habitat and wildlife back to normal.

A real time update would be appreciated.

Best,

Roy

Honestly, I am left confused on this one. What kind of work to be done, wildlife, and habitat are we referring to specifically so I can give a specific real time answer if possible- Thanks.

I join you in your confusion, milikis. One of the charms of Holbox is that humans don't run around trying to do nature's chores. These island/sea rhythms having been occuring for millenia without our help. Remember the post-Wilma disaster 6 years ago, milikis? That time when we thought Holbox would never, ever be viable again? The islanders repaired the houses and businesses and destroyed lives. The habitat and wildlife recovered amazingly well without 'help'.

Roy, since honestly there is no work to be done in this particular clean up (mother nature is sure something else, eh?) I wanted to throw out the idea that there are many rooms (cuartos por mes) available in town for rent starting at 2000 pesos a month. Clean, simple, private bath, some with kitchenette - you could show up and live fine and then see if your services could be of use in other ways maybe?

TexasRob you will most likely see this in person before you see it here, but for the rest, taken 1 hour ago... Holbox beaches:
