please help, losing the will to live!!!!

We are a family of 5, an older couple and three grown up daughters looking for a rental property in Tossa de Mar 5th - 13th August with a pool, have tried Owners Direct, HomeandAway, Homelidays, and Holidaylettings but despite enquiring with every property within our budget we are getting nowhere fast, have also tried properties in various other resorts on the Costa Brava, not the larger more commercial resorts admittedly because we don't like the bigger resorts, but again we are getting nowhere, either renters only book saturday to saturday, are fully booked despite still showing availability on their calendars, or don't bother replying.

Am now considering booking into a hotel self-catering - I have to do this because one of my daughters has coeliac disease and so can't eat hotel food - but would much prefer to rent a property.

What am I doing wrong this time, have done this for years in other parts of the world and found a rental property peak season without this much trouble??

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Thanks.

I think that in peak season on the Costa Brava pretty well all rentals are likely to be for full weeks and Saturday to Saturday. The Costa Brava has a short season and the first two weeks in August are its absolute peak (one place we used to rent at defined that period as super-season, above peak).

is there no way you can do Saturday to Saturday?

Have you looked at booking.com? We have booked apartments through them (for stays of under a week)

Thanks for your reply.

Am presently looking at booking 8 days with the Aparthotel Medplaya Esmaralda, it is twice as expensive but changing our travel dates is impossible, not because of paying more for flights but because of commitments we can't get out of.

Am surprised this is the attitude in this neck of the woods, have travelled widely in europe and most resorts tend to be more flexible with booking dates even during peak season and I should know because three of us are teachers so we are unable to travel any other time. Indeed with Barcelona serviced by several no-frills airlines am dumbfounded as to why this is not the case.

But hey ho looks like we will have to just fork out and take it on the chin.

Thanks anyway.

They certainly are 'sunnydays'.

Thanks for the heads up on that one.

To be honest have usually booked later than this and not encountered the same difficulties but what you say is very true in this particular instance.

so why not book a hotel for 1 night at either the beginnning or end of the holiday in barcelona or gerona and then a weeks rental.

this would save you money and give you the opportunity to explore.

would your daughter be able to eat something in a restaurant or is her diet so restricted.
