Help Needed?!?!

Hi,

My girlfriend & I are looking to visit Sicily in the second week of July and are struggling to meet our requirements! The biggest problem is we don't drive!

We will be flying into Palermo and really do mind a difficult travel (bus/train) once we arrive. We are trying to avoid the 'tourist' areas (trying to get the "real Sicilian experience"..

I have seen the lovely town of Modica.... is it possible to reach the beaches via public transport? we went to Elba last year and quite enjoyed the bus journeys around as we were half way up a mountain (like Modica).....

Can any body provide information please? As bad as this sounds we are looking for somewhere as far away from English people as possible!

Thanks

Jim

You can get a bus or train from palermo to Catania. Then a bus to Ragusa Ibla. You can get a bus from Ragusa to Modica. Not sure though about busses from there to the beaches.

Welcome to Sicily jimdiegocross!

Modica is lovely and you could surely reach beaches from Modica!

Buses are more reliable than trains.

On arrival at Palermo's airport, take the Prestia e Comandè bus from Palermo’s airport to Palermo.

Click on “Aereoporto Falcone Borsellino – Palermo”:

Then take the direct AST bus service from Palermo to Modica – The summer schedules will soon post, so continue to check the website for updates.

Here’s the current winter AST schedule from Palermo to Modica:

Modica/Ragusa/Comiso/Vittoria/Palermo (e rit.)

AST runs service from Modica to Marina di Modica and also Pozzallo.

You might also take AST from Modica to Ragus and then take the local Tumino bus service from Ragusa to the beach at Marina di Ragusa.

3. Re: Help Needed?!?!

Does anyone know the price of the bus ticket from Palermo to Modica? I'm thinking about a quick side trip from Palermo next week, but don't want to break the bank doing it. I've checked the AST website but it isn't clear at all. Any advice would be appreciated :)

Thanks

There is a more frequent bus service to the beach in the summer - buses run to pozzallo, or to Donnalucata, Sampieri, MArina di Modica - you will find that they are going in the morning, coming back in the afternoon schedules - so you need to think of a day at the beach. Pozzallo is the easiest to get to from MOdica. The easiest way from Palermo is: either direct bus - 5 a day, (it takes 4.5 hours) or Pal - CTA, change at the airport and Catania - Modica direct - (4.5 hours too if you get a good change at CTA.

The bus from Palermo to Modica is 12 or 13 euros direct, and 22 (I think) if you do PAl -CTA -Modica.
