On the road....

Hey People...

Were out for two weeks in June, anyone got any good places for Quads and Road Karts that can be hired? Maybe a week for each! Just a price guide would do, we do want to get out of the resort for a bit of a mooch!!!

Whilst I am on the subject, anyone know what the restaurants are like in OLD TOWN? Local food obviously, not burger or kebabs, thats the food of drunks lol

Suggestions there also....

Thanks in advance

Hi there

They will falling over you in Malia to hire you quads etc so the best way is to walk down the road and take your pick of the best deals. Go careful though as there are a lot of accidents involving quads & bikes in Crete. As long as you take care you should be fine.

There are some good restaurants & tavernas in the Old Town and this is definately the best part to eat in rather than lower down around "the strip" area where the main eating feast will, indeed, be the the burgers & kebabs you mention! Just take a walk around the Old Town and you will have no trouble finding a nice restaurant or taverna which takes your fancy.

Have a good holiday.

Hi there

We had lunch in one of Malia's old town restaurants last September on the way back from Spinalonga and it was very good, I don't recall it's name but the restaurants there are a world apart from the fast-food junk outlets in the "new" part of the resort.

Loads of places to rent quads etc but, be VERY careful notorious for accidents.

The old town is definately the best place to eat. Have a wander in the side streets just off the main road and you will find some lovely traditional tavernas.

Thanks for the help.

After reading lots of comments we've seen theres a few places to go in the Old Town for a traditional Taverna (thats actually what we like)...Dolmades etc, something nice and REAL.

Also hear theres a couple of places nearby, Stallis?

Were sure that Quads or Road Kart we will be ok, we hired in Paphos, Cyprus last year, well aware that driving isnt like here in the UK and always a little too cautious when on the road abroad (and properly insured) :-D

So any particular restaurants people can suggest?

Many Thanks in advance.

Hi there

if you are out and about, there's a couple of greast places to eat at.

There's the Tritonas taverna, right on the beachfront in Analipsi, almost next door to the huge Sensatori hotel and there's the Greek taverna in the neighbouring village of Anissaras, again, right on the beachfront. Neither are very far from Malia.

Hi there

Yes, Stalis has a wide choice of really good restaurants & tavernas, many of which lay along the beach road. Here are some I can personally recommend - El Greco and Maria's Golden beach on the beach road and Katerina and Hellas Taverna on side roads off the beach road. If you come along the beach road from Malia, El Greco is on the right bofore you get into the resort centre and Maria's is on the left as you pass through the centre. Hellas is up the side road by Maria's on the left. And Katerina is turn left off beach road after El Greco and opposite the large Anthoussa Hotel and is up on right on side road.

When hiring quads/karts I recommend a trip up to the Lassithi Plateau. Take the road off the main road in Malia that winds up through the old town. The turning is opposite a bank and is signposted Krassi and Lassithi Plateau. This is a wonderful mountain plateau and will give you some fantastic views on the way up and down as well as on the plateau. The plateau has a road which encircles around it's circumference which is dotted with some lovely old traditional greek villages. A great day out which will give you some great scenery and a taste of traditional Crete.

Thanks everyone for the hints & tips. Were more into seeing the general Crete - the REAL Crete rather than the tourist side, a quiet beach, a local Taverna serving local wine, food and dancing always makes for a great day.

Shall ensure we look all suggestions up as its our first time! I speak a little Greek to get us by and will be practising a little more before we arrive.

Thanks again.

Carl
