Few queries about Ella

Hi ..

I'm gonna be spending a night in Ella with 3 friends .. I have few queries to ask:

1. What can we do in Ella in the evening/night, as we will be coming from Yala?

2. Apart from Little Adam's Peak, what is there to do in Ella?

3. How to get to Little Adam's Peak? Do we have to drive somewhere first?

4. How long do we need to do this, & what's the best time to visit it?

5. What sort of outfit/shoes do we need for this?

Thank you! :)

Hi again,

1] Not that much, but such is the truth for most Lankan resort towns. Walk around to find a nice restaurant for dinner, watch the sunset etc.

2] Walk to Lipton's Seat, see one of the many waterfalls (e.g. Diyaluma), visit a tea plantation.

3] Well a car drop-off or a bus ride yes. But not too long.

4] Like most Lankan walks, better start after breakfast and bring a good map of the area or a local guide.

5] Most locals do it on flipflops, no big problem with that. Sandals would also be fine as Ella has quite a moderate climate. Humidity is still a bit tropical so would not use normal sports shoes which can soak up any water, like sneakers - if you REALLY want the most confidence then walking shoes could be used. But as said, sandals work out fine too with a normal physical condition.

All the best,

Thank you again!

Just a little clarification, we're planning to visit tea plantation in Nuwara Eliya, do you think it's better to do so in Ella? Also, where can we get the drop off to LAP, from the hotel or is there a place to catch it?

Hi again,

1] Both are similar in learning the planters life. If you want to buy tea, the Eliya one is better however (higher altitude is better quality)

2] Depends on your hotel, Ella is a town quite scattered over an area of about 2-3 km ;-) It's 45 mins walk from town, can't remember east side or west side - so it might help to be dropped off by a tuktuk or to take bus for a few stops, inquire at the hotel.

All the best,

If you are staying in the middle of Ella or nearby no need to get a lift to LAP- it's only a mile or so from the main junction. Your hotel will give you easy to follow directions. I always go in flip flops. Takes in total about an hour and a half to go there and back. Also try Ella Rock - harder to find the way but bound to be others with a guide you can follow behind. Went in flip flops but stouter shoes might be better.
