Paje or Nungwi - for the dream holiday?

Hi there,

We are planning to visit Zanzibar in a weeks' time and are trying to decide on where in Zanzibar to stay!

All the beaches look gorgeous but there have been reviews of sea urchins, low tide and so on from various reviews on tripadvisor, so we're a little confused.

If anyone can shed light on this, it would be great.

Is there a beach hotel in Zanzibar with beach bungalows right on the beach where one can hear the sounds of the ocean (love it!) and in daytime, go out to *swim* (not wade, so needs to be fairly deep water - up to at least chest level) in the sea, with the sand beautifully white and inviting, with no seaweed and other yucky stuff on the beach?

Does Paje or Nungwi fit the bill of the above description?

Mnemba looked beautiful but is beyond our budget sadly.

Many thanks, all!

Paje is much quieter, so your decision should be based on whether you want a more party scene (Nungwe) or are happy to be left in peace and quiet (Paje or Jambiani).

The coast is tidal at Paje, but it is not such a big deal. Swim at high tide, and go on a snorkelling trip at low tide, or just walk and laze around. It won't ruin your trip.

There are dozens of hotels around Paje-Jambiani that are right on the beach; basically, all hotels are right on the beach.

have fun!
