Security Charge charged to credit card

I have just read on another forum about the Sheraton holding a security charge on a credit card. The amount was $500fjd, apparently this charge was held and was to be "refunded". The person now is having trouble getting it refunded. Is this the usual practice? I thought the usual thing was, like any other hotel, they swipe the credit card but do not action it unless there are damages to the room or for the payment for incidentals used. Can anyone shed some light on this subject as we are travelling this Friday and would like to know exactly what we are in for.

Have not had personal experience but have heard of it happening. The reason being that you might max out your card to its limit and then not have sufficient funds to cover for extras or damage. Best to contact them direct and get it in writing - good luck!

Usually they put a holding charge on our card but don't activate it, this is for extras other than accommodation. I would contact your bank ans is is an unauthorised charge.

Yes have had this when we stayed there. We had to make sure they refunded the amount on our departure. They seemed to have forgotten, but when reminded there was no problem, they just reversed the payment.
