Want to buy a couple of made-to-measure suits while staying in Khao Lak next month - any advice on who to go to for best quality and price?

I can only advise on the one I have used consistently since first going to Khao Lak years ago and who was the first established tailor in Khao Lak and that is Monty the Tailor - website at http://www.montythetailor.com/

His main shop is in Bang La On in the Khao Lak Grand City Plaza, the big yellow building on your right as you enter Khao Lak coming over the mountain. I point out the location because unlike other tailors you will not find him or his staff touting for business on the street. Also, no deposit required and if you do not like the finished article you walk away without paying.

Have a search on the Khao Lak Forum at tripadvisor.co.uk/ShowForum-g297914-i10908-K… for other recommendations.

Thanks for advice - any idea what sort of price you pay for a decent quality 2-piece suit?

If you Email Monty via his website and tell him what you are after he will quote you. Afraid I've not had a suit made so I don't know the price.

I found Monty to be 'challenging' at best. When in Khao Lak I used three different Tailors. Monty will charge you for ANYTHING 'extra'.

I found Creative Tailors on a recommendation and the proprietor listened to what I had to say (Monty the Tailor will tell you why what you want just can't be done exactly as you like for some nonsense reason or charge you extra to do it).

I WOULD ALSO LIKE TO ADD THAT 'Monty the Tailors' DID NOT CORRECT ME WHEN I OVERCALCULATED WHAT THEY WERE OWED AND LET ME OVERPAY!!!!

I highly recommend Creative which was spot on for both quality and price.

I also recommend King Tailors if you are staying at the Le Meridien or the Sarojin. THE EXTRA THAT YOU PAY FOR THIS TAILOR IS MORE THAN SAVED IN TAXI FARES AND SHEER CONVENIENCE. You have been warned. Produced some really top drawer suits and ladies jackets from my own designs. Really lovely workmanship. Highly recommended. Monty and King use the same male expert cutter who is really excellent for specialist items, though I think King use him for suits also whereas Monty only use him for specialist more expensive items. King's suits were just far, FAR better than Monty's,

I hope you have Emailed Monty with your comments, particularly about letting you overpay. Strange that you had to calculate what you owed. Did you not challenge him at the time?

I had my quotes written down but made a mistake on one. I subsequently realised only after consulting my written quote. I did not challenge him as I had found the whole experience so tiring that I was willing to forgo 500B rather than go back. He was a nice man and always friendly, but just not the best in Khao Lak.

Hi there, do you have an email address for King as I will be staying at the sarojin in two weeks and would like to get some quotes and also find out if they could make a suit for my son if we bring his measurements as he isn't coming with us. Thanks.

Sure, it's in the Le Meridien hotel complex on the ground floor. You can get there by foot along the beach from the Sarojin, though I've not been to the Sarojin so I'm not 100% sure how far it is, but I think it's less than a km.

There is also (or was last season) a tailor's shop on White Sand Beach, immediately to the right of the Sarojin so if it is still there you could get a comparative quote.
