backpacking merced lake

We would like to backpack Merced Lake this summer but we can't seem to get a permit for the first week of July. The trailhead is full for happy isles to merced lake even with a sunrise/merced lake pass through. Now we r looking to see if we can get a pass from glacier point trailhead with a sunrise/merced lake pass through, spending first night at Morraine Dome. If we are turn down again, we are thinking of trying to get to Merced Lake via Toulomne Meadows. What's the best backpacking trailhead to Merced Lake via Toulomne for approximately a 3 to 4 days trip. Any input would be greatly appreciated. thank you

You know that only some of the permits are reserved while most are first come first served (day before the hike begins), right?

Try Mono Mdws trailhead. 1st camping at Illouette(sp?) Crk. Then up and over to Nevada Falls and on

to LYV-can be done in one day. Try your luck at 1st come 1st serve permits.

Thank you both for the input. I think we'll try both suggestions and try our luck with first come, first serve permits for sunrise/merced lake pass through and if we can't get the permit then we'll try the Mono Meadows trailhead.
