First, I want to thank everyone for taking the time to assist others with your knowledge and helpful information. Your kindness is greatly appreciated not only for those who post questions but for the rest of us who need the same information!
I am retiring and my wife and I have decided to go to Yosemite at the end of May, prior to the holiday, for four to five days! Yeah, I know, it's short notice and we should have been planning well in advance of this but we'll make it work. We're from Iowa and are flying into Vegas and driving to the park with stops in Kings Canyon and Sequoia before going into Yosemite. We enjoy hiking and photography and don't mind a 5-10 mile day hike and like getting off the beaten path away from the crowds. I have been reading the forum and the Top Questions which are all very helpful and I know some of the trails will probably be closed, or less then desirable due to snow/mud, so my first question is what day hike is your favorite for this time of year?
We enjoy the camping experience (cookding outdoors, fire at night, etc) but the wife enjoys the roof over her head at night and she's cold blooded so a tent does not work well for her. From reading the various information it appears finding a spot in the park may be an issue and weekends are pretty much booked up so does anyone know of a cabin or like facility that could be rented nearby? I see there is a KOA, which has the cabins, 23 miles from the west entrance but is that too far for easy access to the park?
Any input would be appreciated and thanks for your help!
