There are 13 campgrounds in the 1200 square mile National Park, and each one has some terrific aspects.

What do you want to view from your campground? If you want to be in the popular Valley, then getting ANY campsite will be the best one. When reservations open, all the sites are reserved within a few minutes. Have you read about how to maximize your chance of getting one of those sites? (Practice, logged on & ready to reserve at the stroke of 7:00 am Pacific Time, multiple computers set up, and so on.)

If you're visiting in July or August, spending a few nights in the high country is a great option. Tuolumne Meadows CG is huge, but it's close to lots of trails, the Lyell Fork of the Tuolumne River, the Tuolumne Meadows shuttle, and beautiful views.

Tell us more about what you plan to do when you're in the Park. How rustic do you want to be? How much driving? Which month? How many days?

Have you read the Trip Reports in the Top Questions in the upper right?

I like Tuolumne Meadows for the low temperatures and easy access to most of the best dayhikes in the park. Make sure to bring a good bag, a fleece, and some long-johns though.
