No cooking at any of the cabins, other than the area at Roosevelt. You can cook in picnic areas as allowed.

must follow safety regulations. https:/…picnic.htm

To be clear, at Roosevelt. There are two grills in the area of the cabins. There is not an exception for cooking in the cabins.

I realize you have not said where you plan to stay but here is a link to a Trip Report from this year from Roosevelt where visitors noted the security guards talking with residents of a neighboring cabin about leaving a cooler and cans on their porch.

All of Yellowstone is bear country. Cooking food is a bear attractant and you do not want to attract a predator to your front porch or have your cabin neighbors attract one to your front door either.

Here are links for picnic areas where you can grill.

>>>While at Roosevelt I used my Smokey Joe Weber one year w/o any problems... Just set it up in front of my cabin. While slow cooking ribs - grabbed a camp chair and book and nobody said a word to me. So your propane grill should be ok.<<<

While nothing may have said to you what you did is against the rules. Rules that are in place to protect the people that are staying in the cabins the same time and after you and the safety of the animals that go through the lodging areas. Black bears frequently go through the Roosevelt cabin area. Your cooking might not have jeopardized your safety but it could have had a dire effect long after you were gone.

Please do not advocate for other people to disregard the rules simply because you got away with it.

The no cooking rule at the cabins is for safety. Not fire safety. Bear safety.

I can't believe anyone would dare slow cook ribs in front of the cabins in the first place, but to share the idea with another poster is simply reckless.

Someone should have reported you - for the safety of everyone staying in the cabins near you.

" grill was put back into the hard sided pickup."

Presumably you mean inside the cab or in the bed with a hard cover or hard shell.

The open bed of a pickup does not qualify as put away for grill, food, cooler, etc.

Reminder besides safety from bears for persons, food smells attract smaller animals that can do lots of damage. Besides the months that they unoccupied a smell from months before can tempt a bear into breaking into the cabins.
