Hi,

Finalizing our itinerary finally:

Day 1- Arriving Billings airport around noon, renting a car - Driving to Gardiner Yellowstone Mountain Cabins(Via 191 vs. 212? What would you suggest?) Overnight in Yellowstone Mountain Cabins, Gardiner

Day 2 - driving toward OF - overnight OF Lodge

Day3- driving/hiking around, overnight OF Lodge

Day 3 - driving/hiking around, overnight Canyon Lodge

Day 4 - driving/hiking around, overnight Roosevelt cabin

Day 5 - short walk/drive in am, then drive back to Billings (via 212) for our flight at 5PM

Everything is booked - flights, car, lodging. What would you suggest to see on each day?

Thank you very much,

P

Arriving on a noon flight, getting rental car, stopping for cooler/food/supplies.... I would take I-90/191 to Gardiner.

There is a very handy SuperWalmart right off the interstate in Laurel, just west of Billings.

Then on Day 5 leave Roosevelt early for potential wildlife sightings in Lamar Valley (1 hr+ stops to northeast entrance), drive the spectacular Beartooth Hwy to Red Lodge (3hrs + stops), perhaps lunch in Red Lodge & then up to Billings (1 hr from Red Lodge). I wouldn't hike that morning as there are glorious stops along the Beartooth & Red Lodge is a cute historic town.

Your lodging is so perfect! Lucky you! There are others who can give suggestions regarding itinerary.

Meanwhile, take a look at the bottom Top Question here on the Yellowstone forum to see what of the 69 ideas would interest YOU!

Oh & what are your dates of travel?

Be sure to check that the Beartooth Hwy is open as it can close when there is a storm.

Thank you!

Good points.

We will be travelling in the beginning of June. Will roads be open?

Thanks,

The Beartooth historically opens memorial day weekend so you should be fine.

But it has been known to close for storms so simply keep a tab on the weather conditions. The ranger station next to Roosevelt should have a weather update the night before.

Thank you,

What about Days 2 - 4?

Any advise? I understand we will check out Mammoths early in the morning on the Day2, then - Norris - and OF... What else can we do? Can we go swimming in hot springs around there?

And the next two days?.. What would you see?

Thank you,

P
