I am taking my parents to Cincinnati for a Reds game. Any opinions as to which hotel I should choose - Hilton Netherland or Hyatt Regency?
The Hilton is beautiful and historic. It is the more upscale hotel. However, the rooms are a bit smaller than the Hyatt's. The Hilton is also more closely linked to downtown shopping and dining, though the Hyatt is only one block farther away.
I would also recommend the Hilton over Hyatt. I think Westin is excellent as well.
Thank you for your replies!
Both are nice. The Hilton used to be an Omni property and has been around for years but the interior of hotel is still very nice. Hyatt is right across from Fountain Square where they are doing lots of construction. Both are vey close to shopping and within walking distance of stadium, unless they have a hard time walking back up the hill to get to the hotel. Taxi's are everywhere though...
OhioTravel, I was wondering about Taxi's. It should be easy to get one from - say the museums and zoo to/from the Hotel? Are any Museums in walking distance to these two Hotels?
I would also recommend the Hilton. Most of the hotels have cabs waiting out front, so that shouldn't be a problem. However getting a return cab might. I would take a phone number with you or schedule a cab to pick you up at a given time. There aren't any museums walking distance that I can think of besides the Reds Hall of Fame and museum: …mlb.com/NASApp/…index.jsp
Close by is the Union Terminal - not walking distance but probably a $5 cab ride. If you have kids they will enjoy it:
Acquarium is in Newport - walkable but might want to get a cab.
Cincinnati Zoo is real nice, once again need a cab might be a $15 ride.
Thanks Talonesi, I appreciate the advice!
The National Underground Railroad Freedom Center (http://www.freedomcenter.org/) is within walking distance of the hotel - it's right next to the baseball stadium. The other downtown museums are the FIre Museum (http://www.cincyfiremuseum.com/) and the Taft Museum (at the far east end of downtown, http://www.taftmuseum.org/)
The Hilton is old world opulence - they don't make them like this anymore, very fancy. Go in and look around even if you don't stay there. I haven't been in the rooms but I think they'd be a bit smaller than the Hyatt since they're older. The Hyatt and Westin are both modern hotels. All three hotels are on 3 adjacent blocks of 5th street in the heart of downtown. The Westin might be the noisiest because of the Fountain Square construction. The Hilton is katy-corner to Fountain Square and the Hyatt is one full block away. There is an indoor shopping mall in the buildling/block that houses the Hilton.
Hilton netherlands by a mile! The other hotel (hyatt regancy) was the worst! Me and my family went through three rooms and they all had mold in the shower and one did not even have a toliet seat! DO NOT STAY AT THE HYATT!!!!!!
