We went to three islands for our 10th anniversary. The first stop was Oahu where we stayed at the Sheraton, Waikiki. We were upgraded to an oceanfront room which was very nice. It was furnished sparsely but the view was amazing. Also the bed was comfortable, the price was right and we had good service. We really liked Oahu. Once you leave the Waikiki area we saw the most beautiful beaches ever.
Day one - we arrived at 7 PM and immediately shown to our room where we were upgraded to oceanfront and given a bottle of Champagne. We met my sister and her boyfriend who were staying at the Outrigger Reef. That is also a very nice hotel. We ate diner at there seafood restaurant and I don't remember the name of the restaurant. It was more casual dining. The food was good. After we walked around Waikiki and went exploring other hotels. We just loved the grounds of the Moana Surfrider. We had wanted to stay there but the prices were so much better at the Sheraton. My sister said the food at the Verandah was very good. We walked around Waikiki for hours just looking at the stores. The place was hopping and alot of fun. The Sheraton is right in the heart of everything.
Day Two - coffee on the lanai in the morning looking out at Waikiki and Diamond Head. This was great. We went for breakfast at the Hula Grill. What a great breakfast. The Banana Macadamia Nut Pancakes were the best.
We rented a car for the day and drove the scenic route to the North Shore. This was a wonderful experience. Beach after beach and one prettier then the other. We think Oahu probably has the nicest beaches of all the Hawaiian islands we have seen. We stopped at the blow hole and saw the beach from Here to Eternity, Sunset Beach, Waimea Beach, etc. Just beautiful. Tourists need to leave Waikiki which is nice but commercial and see the rest of the island. We stopped at the Shrimp Truck for lunch. This was fun and very tasty and reasonably priced. We ended the day in Haleiwa. What a cute little beachtown. We went to the different shops in the town. It is a fun place to spend a couple of hours. We returned to the hotel taking the main road down the middle of Oahu. We were too full from the Shrimp Truck to eat dinner. We went to sleep early.
Day 3 - In the morning we walked around the grounds of the Royal Hawaiian hotel. It has recently been renovated. Now that is one classy hotel. We then took the ENOA Tour to Pearl Harbor. We were going to drive but by going with the tour they drove and gave interesting information on the way. Of course they stop at every hotel to pick up guests. They take you to where you buy your tickets and make sure you get in. They gave you tips to sit near the exit so you can be first on the boat. There was no waiting at Pearl Harbor. They had a survivor from the Pearl Harbor attack speak and that was quite interesting along with the film. Going to the USS Arizona was an emotional experience. Everyone should go there once.
In the afternoon we went to the Royal Hawaiian for lunch. We had burgers at there outside restaurant. We then relaxed at the beach and the water at Waikiki was superb. We were supposed to go to dinner at dukes but fell asleep instead and did not wake up until 10 PM and then had to pack to go to our next island.
We really liked Oahu and plan to go back. We would split the trip between Waikiki and the North Shore (Turtle Bay) next time.
