buffalo-vermont-boston trip for 7 days by car

He,

we are gonna make a roadtrip in Canada and the east part of USA for two months. We are leaving in one week. The first part will be Canada.

I have finalise out trip in Canada, but i need some advice for our trip from Buffalo to Boston by car, and i don't wanna take the I 90, and ride behind trucks. We have 7 days, so we have to be in Boston the 27 of August for the car. Any advice, tips are welcome!

We both like small towns, culture and nature...

Thanks a lot in advance

chad and frank

Hi chad and frank, You can take routes NY-5/US-20 across New York State which runs just south of the I-90 highway. You will come across some great little towns like Canandaigua (pronounced Cannon-DAY-gwuh), Geneva, and Seneca Falls (where you can see a Women's History Museum, a Ntl. Historic Park, because Seneca Falls was home to Eliz. Cady Stanton, a friend of Susan B. Anthony and early suffragette.) http://www.nps.gov/wori/index.htm Another popular little Finger Lakes town is Skaneateles (pronounced Scan-ee-AT-tillis).

Near Syracuse, you can visit Green Lakes State Park and walk around Round Lake - gorgeous! These lakes are rare in the world as the water from the surface and the water from the bottom water never reverses itself. The lakes were created from the melting of the glaciers from the ice age (like the Great Lakes and the Finger Lakes). http://nysparks.com/parks/172/details.aspx

If you drive up north of Syracuse or Utica and then turn east you can drive through the Adirondack Mountains which are absolutely beautiful. If you drive up Whiteface Mountain (near Lake Placid) you can see for miles around... you can even see Montreal. It apparently costs $16 to drive up the mountain: tripadvisor.com/Attraction_Review-g48899-d10…

Hope this helps!

-Dee

Great suggestions from Lady Dee! You might also want to visit Howe Caverns along the way:

When you get into western Massachusetts, try not to drive straight to Boston. Stop in Stockbridge or Lenox. Stockbridge has a famous old inn, The Red Lion Inn and Lenox has many nice B&B's. Try to make it a weeknight because it's hard to find a room there during the Tanglewood season when the Boston Symphony plays in Lenox on weekends. Everyone love the Norman Rockwell Museum in Stockbridge, a truly gorgeous tiny town.

I also recommend a stop at Old Sturbridge Village in Sturbridge, Massachusetts. It's an outdoor "living history" museum with people in period costume who depict life in America from 1790-1840.
