3 Night stay sept 2013.

Hi,

we are staying for 3 nights & would be grateful for some ideas on the best way to spend our time day & evenings.

We like scenery,culture,most things really.

We are in our early fifties will have our own transport like a good time, entertainment, music etc, chilling out, easily pleased I suppose.

Any advice would be a great help.

Thank you.

Flagstaff has the Lowell Observatory & outside of town is Walnut Canyon, which has Indian cliff dwellings; it's a wonderful place to visit.

Are you including a day trip to the Grand Canyon while there? There is also Wupatki Ruins and Sunset Crater. You can stop here and do this loop off of 89, (allow about 2 hours), then continue on to Cameron Trading post, which is just past 64 which takes you into the Grand Canyon. At Cameron Trading Post have a Navajo Taco and look around the store then go back to 64 and continue into the Grand Canyon.

Don't know what your plans for Monument Valley are but one night often is enough. You could add a night in Page between MV and Flagstaff www.visitpageaz.com

You've been offered some good suggestions. Adding to those:

Riordan Mansion is a historic home of a founding family of Flagstaff. You can tour it in an hour or two, but check opening days (the state park funding has been cut and thus operating hours have been altered in recent times) http://azstateparks.com/Parks/RIMA/index.html

Downtown Flagstaff is a charming area to spend an evening strolling about and you could plan to spend an evening choosing a restaurant that strikes your fancy for dinner and/or drinks. Don't miss spending a little time on Heritage Square, the sort-of living room of Flagstaff, for excellent people watching. This can be especially interesting (or crowded, depending on your perspective) if you'll be visiting on the first Friday of the month as there is an art walk every month on that day.

If Theatrikos Theater Company has a production going on at the time you visit, you may enjoy seeing what community theater in America can be like: http://www.theatrikos.com/

Depending on your taste in music and your sense of adventure, you may enjoy popping into an old Route 66 Roadhouse: http://www.themuseumclub.com/

Other ideas can be found here: http://www.flagstaffarizona.org/ . Also, make sure to pick up the free weekly publication FlagLive! available in stands around town, particularly near entry ways at restaurants, smaller stores, etc. or look it up online, http://flaglive.com/ , for a calendar of local happenings during your dates of visit.

2 nights in Monument Valley totally depends on what you are planning there. Long tour, short tour? Hiking, horseback riding? Roadtrip in that area (Mexican Hat, Gooseneck SP, Moki Dugway, Muley Point, Valley of the Gods, Bluff...) That hotel certainly is worth to spend 2 nights. No doubt about that. Location Location!
