There will be 2 adults and an almost 7 year girl. We've never been. Any highlights that we shouldn't miss?

Plenty to see and do in 3 days. Visit www.santafe.org for tons of info and read through the many posts here on TA. The Plaza area has many museums, shops, restaurants and hotels.

Looked on there and it sounds like 3 days may be just the right amount of time for our first visit.

We would love to see some local artisans as well as some scenic drives.

Visit the Plaza area and there are Native American artisans under the portal at the Palace of the Governors. Plenty of galleries to choose from, but probably not much fun for a 7 year old! Drive up toward the ski area, some hiking and views there. North to Chimayo for the Santuario and some local rug weavers.

For artisans and kid fun you could visit Ghost Ranch, Georgia O'Keeffe's ranch. They offer hikes, horse riding, and insights/tours on O'Keeffe's life and art. There are some fun treasure hunt tours offered for kids/adults by Pink Lady Tours (505) 699-4147 and she can guide you to a Native Pottery Tour on the pueblo at Santa Clara. And don't forget the Children's Museum, lots of fun for kids, wherever you stay will direct you there. A painting workshop might be fun for the family too. Julianna Poldi is an artist who offers fun workshops. (505) 954-1608 is her #. I hope this helps.

PS. remember we're at 7000+ feet above sea level so take it easy on your first day to get adjusted.

Santa Fe has a fabulous children's museum. In addition, you must eat at Gabriel's. It is about 15 NW of town but has the absolute most authentic New Mexican food around. And your daughter will love that you can get made-to-order guacamole prepared right at your table. Fabulous.

There's Ghost Ranch too, dinosaur bones, tours, kayaking, beautiful views of Georgia O'Keeffe landscapes, and horse riding on very mellow horses for the little'un. Chimayo Trading is a great gallery for Native art and weavings and pottery if you're going to take the HIgh Road to Taos through Chimayo. There are some great ideas on Santa Fe Selection.com in the "kid stuff" section under activities and day trips. Llama trekking, and fishing and then some, and great restaurant suggestions too, from a local.

Notice that MooreUSA touts Gabriels eatery on all these posts. Is he/she the owner? As to the three days, lots to see in Santa Fe. One interesting thing just north of Santa Fe is Shidoni foundry where they make all these huge bronze statues you see in state capitols and universities. The CanyonRoad walk, too, near downtown, where all the artists have their galleries is great. We enjoyed touring Georgia OKeefe's house in Abiquiui, but you have to get on a reservation list to do that. But a drive out to Ghost Ranch provides you with some of the most beautiful New Mexico territory around. If you want to get out of town, a visit to Tent Rocks National Monument, about 30 miles southwest, is wonderful. So much to see in and around Santa Fe, hard to know where to stop.

Yes the Gabriel's Restaurant posts seem a bit odd all by someone new to our forum. It is a good restaurant but there are many just as good in Santa Fe. Shidoni is great place to visit especially when they are pouring.
