Where to eat, get gas?

Hi, we are a family of 6 excitedly anticipating visiting Friday Harbor August 2nd. We are renting mopeds for the day to tour the whole island. Can anyone tell me if there is anywhere to eat outside of Friday Harbor or should we pack a picnic lunch? Also, we have to refill the gas on the mopeds, what is the average price for gas on the island and are there many stations? Any not to miss spots on the island tour? Thank you so much, Marjie

Pack a lunch/beverage.

Friday Harbor and Roche Harbor (areas) for dining. None elsewhere.

Gas up in Friday Harbor, several stations.

Price? Does it really matter? :)

Last question should be answered on this TA article, the portion on San Juan Island:

Do consider renting a car if you have 6 people. It would be cheaper to rent (thinks it's about $50 a day in the summer) and far safer. Years ago the newspaper here used to print in the sheriff's log the weekly accidents that required ET medical care for people on those moped's (mostly broken bones and the like) but they stopped reporting those publicly about 8 or so years ago. Do recall the roads here are curvy with no to very narrow bike lanes and the speed limit is 45 MPH (faster than moped's go. The so called "scoot car" things are even slower and very hard to pass as they are wide and most roads don't allow passing legally because of double yellow line but people do it all the time anyways). You can rent a regular car though from M&W auto. I looked up their phone and it's 800-323-6037.

Gas is almost $4 a gallon here. There are 3 gas stations in FH (2 owned by same guy) and now they again have gas at RH.

Most all food is in FH and the places RH owns out there. Pelandaba Lavender farm has a small food shop at their farm location as does a few other rural places but the selection is very limited. Duck Soup Inn is open for dinner in the summer and they are located between FH & RH.

Be sure to see both American and British camp sections of the National Park. AC is far larger. Also Limekiln State Park is well loved by visitors as Orcas's seen more often off the coast there than any other public location on SJI
