Girls Getaway 40 year celebration!

College girlfriends are planning a first time visit to San Antonio mid July. We are staying at the Contessa. From reading reviews, I know the river cruise is highly recommended as are the missions and Alamo. What about dinner on a river cruise? What is best transportation to see the missions? Anyone do the bikes? I see Boudros is highly recommended; any other MUSTS to see and places to EAT? Anything especially recommended for a group of girls? Any recommendations on Spa at Contessa? Any close areas outside city that are must sees? Just putting together notes from all the forums I have read to attempt to prepare. We know it will be HOT. Is the tubing recommended? So excited to celebrate 40 years of friendship. It will be a perfect adventure. Will appreciate any and all suggestions. Thanks!

Check out Rockin R River Guides online, rockinr.com. You can tube the Comal and Guadalupe. Guadalupe is more scenic, nature-y, and the level of the river depends on rain. Comal goes behind the water park and through residential area, level is not dependent on rain and seemed to feel cooler to me. Had a great time doing both.

I have not done the Missions via bicycle but here is my favorite SA Blogger describing the experience:

how many friends are there? some restaurants have regular dinner barges... I've had several private barge parties for my birthdays..having finger good and drinks. You can check with your restaurant of choice to ask about when they offer dinner barges or contact the restaurant of your choice and they will book the boat for a private gig

for breakfast, my usual choice to take out of town guests is http://www.guentherhouse.com/

biscuits and gravy (share an order) , strawberry waffles and their pastries! In walking distance of the hotel-through the historic King William area.

----------

most posters suggest eating Tex-Mex away from the riverwalk...a decent choice is the three restaurants

at Market Square. Yes, on the touristy side but all three lively, colorful and manged by the same family.

For not so quite touristy,-simply walk under the freeway at Market Square to their Pico De Gallo restaurant. La Margarita or Mi Tierra (24/7) are good choices too.

If the weather is nice, I always enjoy hanging out at the Market Square and having margritas--mango!

One suggestion would be to stop in at La Margarita bar to have their shrimp cocktail and a margarita and then dinner/lunch at one of the other two spots. (as well, visit the bakery at Mi Tierra)

Must visit? I always forget to tell women about Marti's (high end Laredo, Tx Boutique). It is at 310 W. Commerce 3 blocks from El Mercado Marketplace where you must visit and try and eat at Mi Tierra.

I love the clothing and jewelry at Marti's. It is definitely one of a kind ! ! Enjoy !

There are also a couple of nice ladies shops in an alley way directly behind the SA Visitors Center which is across the street from the Alamo.
