To backtosa: RE - City Market in Luling

Check this out:

Make SURE you get to City Market before 5pm as they sometimes run out of meat and close early. Best time is between 10 and 1130am before they get crowded at lunch. Also, City Market is closed on Sundays.

Best meats in order: Brisket, sausage (dry), pork ribs. Beans are good, tater salad is average and root beers are the best drink to go with your BBQ feast. Any oter questions, feel free and ask. BONE APPETITE!

The Big Red's served at most places (including City Market) is the "corn syrup" bitter version of the drink.

The "real" Big Red is made with cane sugar and I believe you can still get it at the Dublin Dr. Pepper plant.

Took the kiddo to Dublin this summer. I don't care for sodas, but when it's 106 at the ranch, nothing goes down better than soda from Dublin.

Still, it's as likely to have syrup as root beer. Recently read in Dallas or FW paper that some folks (Baker's Ribs?) are starting to carry the sugar version in their fountains. Yet another reason for me to make a trip home.

What about Lone Star? Shiner is a bit heavy for BBQ in the summer.

Lone Star is a fair second choice, but Shinner's NEVER too heavy! :)

I don't mind a drive for some great BBQ,but if they only have Shiner and Lone Star,I am bringing my own!! Great BBQ deserves a great beer..Both of these fall way short!! Although Shiner is ok for cooking..

OK 1Life, at the risk of being censured for being off topic, what beer would you bring?
