Christmas in Tucson!

I haven't been since my friend got married in the mid 90's and I took a trip south to Ajo and Organ Pipe via Tucson. This time I am basing myself there for 6 nights and plan to have a nice long visit. I'll do Bisbee/Tombstone, Organ Pipe/ Ajo and Nogales as daytrips and enjoy the city too. Can't wait---I am usually in Phoenix or further north up Flagstaff/Sedona/GC way. I cannot wait to drive the backroads (paved of course).

I remember hiking up to an overlook (up Saddle Mountain) overlooking Weaver's Needle. The trailhead was past Apache Junction, on the way to Tucson. It was a spectacular hike. I'd like to go again but can't remember exactly what the name of the trail or its exact location is. Anyone know?

And is Ronstadt's Hardware Store stil there? I remember going when I was in college , we were all in town for a basketball game at U of A. Late 70's ish.

Thanks much!

Sorry, but Ronstadts Hardware has been long closed. It was torn down to make way for the downtown local bus terminal, aptly named the ronstadt Transit Center.

Here is the trail you probably remember.

If the website gives you a problam accessing it, you will have to register (free). but it is a great resources to find hiking trails. Here are two website listing local hikes.

I do hope you have a blast here over Christmas. Please visit my blog, where I have a pretty long list of things to see and do around Tucson. It should bring back some fond memories.
